woah. Yes, that actually was a comment in my last post. I don't have a specific reason why I haven't posted, but I don't really feel like I need one either. I'm child-like sometimes, I didn't want to, so I didn't. As it happens, now I have a ton of stuff that I want to blog about and feel like it, so here I am.
I have a hard time with sticking with anything, so the fact that I have been blogging (if somewhat inconsistently) for over two years is a feat within itself. It could be that I'm not at home 9.5 hours less than I was before two weeks ago. Or that I was experiencing major PMS last week and didn't want to do anything. I feel like it is OK to not blog for awhile without reason. Why not?
I was taking pictures though.
Salsa that I made over the weekend. Is there much better in the world than fresh salsa?

I've jumped on the green bandwagon! Who knew that a green smoothie would be so good and satisfying? I drank several of these last week in the morning. Green smoothie? Leafy green + fruit + water. Mine were usually made up of bananas, cherries and spinach.

July 4th was spent at the Floyd Fandango beer and wine fest. It was really fun and I loved trying out several types of wines and bringing a couple of bottles home. Dancing, food, wine, and beer.

I've been getting in the habit of bringing ingredients to work to make lunch with. I don't usually like to bring already prepared food and since we have a fully stocked kitchen here it makes food prep really nice. I love kidney beans in my salad! That little guy is a plum

Indian Food! Me and Josh went out this past Wednesday to see "Away We Go" which I really loved and Indian food for dinner.

Quorn! I finished my box of Quorn chik'n patties last week. Pretty good, for fake meat and nice for a quick lunch in a pinch. If you're not a fan of the real meat version of these patties, you probably won't like these. Very similar.

I don't know why I took a picture of this. I think I remember thinking it was pretty. Barbara's oat cereal.

So there you have it. We went walking the 3 miles on our road last night and I actually jogged and ran in short spurts without feeling like I was going to pass out. Baby steps!

So good to see you! And your Green Monster!
I have always wanted to try to make my own salsa! Thanks for the pic. I think I’ll dig out my food processor and give’er a try.
I got a sorta nasty comment today too. I read back to see what the comment was you were referring to and saw the one from Britt (who I’ve never heard of) WTF is up with that? Why are people being mean all of a sudden? Hope you’re doing well
Dear Token Fat Girl,
I’m feeling SO INSPIRED by your blog. So.Inspired. I’ve even passed it onto friends n’ family too!!
Also I’ve RECEIVED HATE MAIL before, from my blog… honestly? people sometimes suck.
Although, I suppose it was a compli-sult… as in she really likes your blog and misses you… so take it as a compliment?
hehe
E
I’m glad you jumped on the green smoothie bandwagon! They really are amazing!
Baby steps are exactly what it takes to win the race!
Also, what’s your recipe for homemade salsa? I made my first attempt at it this past Sunday and it turned out okay — was a bit to spicy-hot for my liking.
I am always disappointed when you don’t update for long periods, just because I love reading so much. But I’m not one to talk, I update maybe once a week!
Hey… it’s your blog! No need to apologize. Post when you WANT to post… and don’t worry about anyone else.
Mmm… I’ve GOT to try a green smoothie sometime soon!
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I’m linking you now cause I love your posts. I look forward to reading more in the future!
Well obviously I didn’t see this until AFTER i sent you that email telling you to update your blog… Needless to say I’m glad you came back to update.
I also saw “Away We Go” over the weekend and loved it and I’m having Indian for dinner tomorrow. So ya know, go us. Or whatever.
I love Quorn – and taking salad ingredients to work. Have you tried chickpeas (garbanzo beans) in salads – they’re delicious!!
haha…keep track of her, if she doesn’t comment in the next 3-5 post send her an email asking why she hasn’t been commenting
)
Ugh, I am so over rude comments. Post when you want to. It’s your darn blog!
Green smoothies, rock, don’t they? I was so skeptical at first but I am so glad I went for it…you truly cannot taste the spinach!
Never made homemade salsa but that is a cool photo.
Nice pics! I love homemade salsa and green smoothies too
May I recommend you try adding Chia seed to the smoothies? I find they give you tonnes of energy–and make you feel full for longer. Check it out:

Fantastic pics! Well… that impatient person with the blog fix is actually a compliment, in disguise
But…you are Allowed to have a life, for pete’s sake! You are newlyweds!
I love the salad, and the smoothie is something I would drink! Great recipes!
silly person for being angry at you not posting!
On another note the green smoothies sounds oddly appealing I’ll have to give it a try.
Love your work
you’ve started my adventure into the blog world as until your’s I’d never really read any.
Hmm that was not a nice comment. But glad you’re okay.
glad to have you back. i know you don’t have to blog, but it really does inspire me. to know there is someone else out there facing the same struggles and succeeding at living life. i love when you post pictures. salsa looks great. yummy. i’ve been on an edamame kick myself lately.
I’m glad you are back. I tried green smoothies a few months ago and vowed never to have them again BUT I just ordered a blend tech so when that arrives on my door step you better believe I’m going to re-try the smoothie thing.
Way to go on your walk and including running and jogging.
Love green smoothies but I don’t have them every morning, only when the mood strikes!
And don’t worry about the negative posts. There are trolls out there that post in hopes to rile people up and that’s all they do day in day out. Ignore and move on. It’s your blog, you call the shots my friend.
Have a great day!
I really love your blog. I hope you continue to post new stuff and by the way CONGRATULATIONS on the wedding. Pleas post some more Europe pics!
KIT
People leave the strangest comments sometimes. Post whatever you want whenever you want. I’ll keep reading!
I’ve never made fresh salsa. I imagine it’s amazing!
Yes, I have missed your blog too but you are a newlywed and have a new job…those things take a priority. We will be patient and wait for an update because it is well worth the wait. Your blog is honest about your ups and downs the challenges you face and owning your part in the problem and working towards real solutions! You take great pictures which makes your blog even more interesting.
Now I must say that Mrs. Britt must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed to be so rude and obnoxious! Bully for her losing 50lbs juggling being a mom etc. which is awesome and congrats are in order. I lost 80 lbs with 2 kids and a JOB! Unfortunately, I gained it back so be careful darling about throwing stones, losing wt isn’t nearly as hard as keeping it OFF! However Ms Britt doesn’t know squat about the Health care crisis in America!!! Just like a lot of uninformed, uneducated folks who “THINK” just because they have Health Insurance PISS ON Everyone Else! Well, I have a NEWS FLASH FOR Ms Britt, Wake-up, look around. You my dear are one paycheck away from not have health care insurance yourself! You think you are safe but you are NOT! If the citizens of this dear country DO NOT GET Their Head out of Their Bottoms very soon and do a reality check this country IS Screwed. BTW darling you ARE Already paying for all of the uninsured by paying a higher premium for your insurance, hmm or do you pay ANYTHING for you insurance because you husband is a government employee?? Wouldn’t it be better if everyone one paid something towards their insurance and everyone was covered? We would have fewer patients in the ER for the sniffles and folks would be able to be treated sooner than later! You are right we all need to take responsibility for our own health and improve it every way we can however it is insane that a country as great as ours does not have a universal health care policy! FYI, I have worked in the Healthcare system for 35 years, most of that time as a staff nurse doing patient care. I currently am a hospital auditor and have indepth knowledge of reimbursement and the inner workings of billing, so please Ms Britt for the sake of your family especially your child get a real clue about the healthcare crisis in America and how it is affecting you now and in the very near FUTURE! Just one more thing Lorrie was the age of your child when she got a summertime cold until then she was a perfectly healthy little girl. Then suddenly she started having breathing problems. We were fortunate WE had health insurance. I took her to the doctor and she was in congestive heart failure. Imagine YOUR doctor telling you your sweet little baby is in heart failure and was in critical condition because of a simple cold virus…now flash forward she is lucky and recovered and an adult. Ask yourself if this was your child should she now be denied the right to affordable health care insurance because she had a devastating illness at the age of two? Should an insurance company be allowed to deny you the right to buy insurance at an affordable rate? Hmm, most Insurance companies will sell you car insurance on a car with some dings, is a human life less valuable? Think long and hard about the health care crisis. Get the real facts before you make snap judgments. Lorrie is just one of millions of people in America in the same boat and FYI if we hadn’t had insurance I would not have been able to take her to a Children’s Hospital specializing in heart conditions and the outcome may have been far different. We were one of the lucky ones but what about all of the children who are not so lucky should they not get a chance at a healthy life just because their parents work at a job that doesn’t provide insurance. Those folks work every bit as hard as I do. Is my child or your child entitled to health care but the fast food worker’s child is not? It is not a matter of IF but WHEN you my Dear do not have the luxury of health care insurance. Let’s see how you would feel about the situation if you couldn’t take your child to the doctor because you couldn’t afford the expense.
I just found your blog and it is well done. If you keep posting, I will keep reading!
As for the “jogging and almost passing out” I remember when I started running. The first time I ran a mile without a rest I thought my body was going to give up on me. When I did it, it was awesome. Keep up the good work!
Re: Nannette
1. She is obviously NOT owning her part of the problem or else like Britt said she would have seen A LOT more progress by now.
2. Universasl healthcare in this country would ruin the ENTIRE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM in the United States as we know it. If you want insurance get a job and pay for it! Everybody always wants someone else to pay their way and nobody wants to take responsibility for their own problems.
Joselyn, the entire health care system as we know it is horrible. We should want to “ruin it” (that is replace it with something that works for people other than the insurance industry.) Stop taking what the insurance industry says as the Gospel because it’s anything but. Their only interest is their profits, not your health.
Did you know that it’s quite common for private health insurance plans to drop customers (for any reason they can find) when their customers become very sick? Please consider that. Think about that. What’s the point of having “insurance” if it may disappear when you need it most?
The insurance industry CEOs have admitted that they do this and they’ve also said they have no plans on stopping. Denying care to those who need it most is way too profitable to stop doing it.
—
The United States currently ranks #37 in the world in health care yet we pay more money per person than any other country in the world. Where’s all of that money going to? The profits of the insurance industry.
—
This interview http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07102009/watch2.html is essential for anyone who wants to understand how the health insurance industry has been using disinformation to keep health care reform from happening.
It has nothing to with the facts, and everything to do with more profit for the health insurance industry.
Joselyn, being ignorant is one thing, trying to spread your ignorance to others is another. Shut the hell up unless you know what you’re talking about.
Unless people are paying a subscription fee to read your blog, it’s pretty lame to be all demanding of more posts… although it’s nice to get the “I miss you, are you ok?” type of comments.
Don’t mind the rude trolls. They come around to all the weight loss blogs and leave nastiness. It’s nothing personal… I am pretty sure their lives just suck and they want to bring others down with them.
Glad to see you!
Re: Joselyn
I am pretty sure Lorrie does not want an uber political blog so all I am going to say is:
Joselyn-
I am saying a prayer for you tonight that God may grant you a little compassion for your fellow man. In the trying times of our economic situation, not every American is so lucky to be able to just “get a job”. BTW, just a little reality check for you, a lot of Americans are willing to pay for insurance but they cannot get it because of asinine reasons.
~Tegan
Also Joselyn, just because you put something in caps does not make it true. The truth is, you don’t know what would happen in this country if we had universal health care. Seems to me that there are a lot of countries that do just fine with universal health care. But I’ll leave you to your Fox News reports so you will feel validated in your assumptions. Back to my prayers! I am going to add in one for health care reform in this country!!
I am about to get on the green smoothie bandwagon as well. I keep reading about it all over the web. What makes it so good?
You just keep praying Tegan. Luckily for you Obama is president so I’m sure all your hopes and dreams will finally come true. Unfortunately for everyone else its all going to come at a very high price.
Joselyn,
Yeah you’re right, because health care now in this country is already so cheap and easy for everyone……
Joselyn, did you know that the US spends more per person on health care than any other country in the world?
When you talk about the costs (of health care reform) being high, you couldn’t possibly be more wrong. One of the big reasons to reform health care is to save money. The current system is extremely wasteful because of the private health insurance scam (and there’s no better word to describe it.)
Every other nation that has a national health care plan spends significantly less money (per person) than we do, yet they have better health care results than we do and are able to care for every single person in their country.
These are the cold hard facts. Arguing against these facts using the health insurance industry’s talking points (which are lies & distortions) only makes you their puppet.
Health care reform (“public option” must be included for real health care reform) is not only for those who don’t currently have health care, it’s also for the businesses that are getting killed by the high price of providing health insurance coverage for their employees. And it’s also for those who currently have health insurance and think they are doing just fine – but in reality their premiums are going up every year. And sadly they may find that their insurance company deserts them when they need them most.
Please understand that the health insurance industry routinely drops people from their coverage when they need it most (when they get really sick.) They do this to increase profits. The entire profit motive is messed up for health insurance. They make more money by not providing your care!
The BS talking points of the insurance industry say “you don’t want a bureaucrat between you and your doctor” but the truth is right now you have a “CEO between you and your doctor” and that CEO only cares about one thing: profit.
Wow, who doesn’t think the health care system in the US is Broken? I work in the insurance industry and I have opinions and concerns, but mostly on the “why are so many uninsured” and “why is insurance prohibitively expensive”. Great article in NY Times mag about rationing. Tough questions, tough solutions.
Re: Lorrie’s progress – caring and knowing what to do and having the resources to do it are not equivalent! I’ve been having that “what is going on” discussion with my brother and he exasperates the heck out of me with a mix of “my body is uber-efficient” and “one bowl of ice cream is not the problem, it’s when I eat the entire container”. Umm, if your body is uber-efficient then you shouldn’t have ice cream in your house at all and you can buy the small 1-cup container when you really need some which would cut down on the midnight raids. I don’t keep my binge food in the house, period. Weight loss is HARD especially if you’re sedentary, and exercise is HARD especially if you’re overweight, so there are some catch-22′s going on. But I also think there’s a kind of information gap going on, that some of us were raised with unrealistic expectations of how we “should” be able to eat.
Joselyn, “GET A JOB” hmm, how many Americans are Working their Butts off everyday for an employer who either won’t provide healthcare insurance or can’t afford too! If you think getting a job is the answer you are badly mistaken and living in a DREAM WORLD!!!
You are out of touch with reality…The smug ones who have health care insurance enjoy because sooner or later your bubble is going to be busted! My husband worked for a chemical plant for 28 years well guess what he got laid OFF! Could the average family afford $1000.00 per month insurance premium on unemployment??? Don’t think so…YES, my husband got a “JOB” and went back to work for a contractor (that’s a whole nother story) doing work at the same Chemical company he was laid off from…hmm wonder why he got laid off, could it have anything to do with BENEFITS??? And the companies desire to Cut Costs (Healthcare is a very expensive benefit) You ladies are really CLUELESS and uniformed! Please consider the source of for your information not all so called “News Media” are created equally.
yes, I really like your site. It doesn’t look like there’s much wieght loss, but it’s honest. It looks like you are having a great time.
And yes, I have rethought my food plan and knowcked out some synthetic ZERO Calorie recycled gargage.
Thanks for being you all!
very best regards,
doug
This looks cool so far, what’s up people?
If there are any real people here looking to network, leave me a post.
Oh, and yes I’m a real person LOL.
Peace,
