Tuesday I went into work with a gut feeling that I should have just stayed home. The weather forecast was ice, sleet and snow and barely two hours into the work day I decided to make it home before the storm hit.
Instead of retelling the story, I figured that my GoWear Fit activity log could do that for me:
See that chunk of activity in my otherwise sedentary day? That's when the car got stuck. About two and a half miles from home. I was halfway up the hill and I just started sliding back down. My actions before deciding to walk home were as follows: get out of car (that is in the middle of the road) and try to push it up or down the hill. That was stupid. Start walking up the hill assuming people could get around. Realizing (again) that wasn't smart. Walking back down, getting back in the car and somehow reversing the car so it was not in the ditch, but not in the road. That worked and I tried not to freak out too much when I realized that I was in full reverse mode in 2nd gear. Nice. So I started walking.
And you know what? I didn't even care. I wasn't mad, hopeless, or frustrated. I just walked home in the snow. I looked at it as an adventure. I didn't have my cell phone with me (which is a very bad habit, I'll admit) but I would have had to walk either way. I got cardio in, and by the time I made it home I felt really good from the exercise. Go figure. The car was towed home for free thanks to our car insurance and within 30 minutes it was as though nothing ever happened.
I realized that I'm capable of pushing myself even when I think I can't. I was fighting a cold and my left leg was bothering me. And both perceived ailments were much better after this walk.
As you can see, I set my calorie burn target really high! I love challenging myself to get in the 3,000 range. A normal day without exercise is in the low 2,000's.

I love the screen shots from the GoWearFit. I have the Bodybugg which works great, but I have to click on different links to get some of that info–it’s not all on one page.
Like you, 3,000 calories burned is my happy number. That’s the point where I’m proud of what I’ve done. Great work!
WOW… that thing is amazing!
God I love my Go Wear Fit stats. I am glad to hear your safe. That is all that matters. Here in Minnesota snow id a way of life. Luckily we really don’t have any hills here to speak of, and the local cities are well versed in Snow. I hope you see that calorie deffecit on the scale this week…

Hmmm…I really should check out the go wear fit. I have NO idea how many calories I burn in a day.
Totally sucks about the car but how cool you got in a walk that made you feel better!!! That is awesome! I am also loving my GoWear Fit and yesterday I kept challenging myself to just get up and move. It almost made it fun. LOL!
I was going to ask you how you were able to set your calorie burn higher? I can’t see to adjust mine for more than a 2lbs. weight loss per week. I would like to have a 3 pound loss each week and I know I just have to add 500 calories to the total but I am totally OCD and want to see it on my Activity Manager! LOL!
I am so glad you are safe!
Good job for pushing yourself! And I’m glad everything went okay! Kinda scary!
What a positive way to think about a not-so-fun situation!
Good for you!! I live in Michigan and walking in the snow is a great way to burn some calories.
So, do you love the Go Wear Fit? I’ve been thinking about getting something like that but don’t know if it’s worth the money. Now that you’ve had it for a little bit, are you glad you bought it?
I’m so in lust with your Go Fit.
It’s awesome that you just walked and didn’t throw a fit about it or complain that it had to be done. Good job!
that’s great.. i have to look into the go wear fit..
I really want to get a GoWear Fit! It sounds like it really motivates you to work harder. Hopefully sometime soon…
Hey Lorrie. Good job on just gutting it out. I think we’re all capable of doing more than we give ourselves credit for, if put in the right situation.
Wow, that an amazing piece of kit you have there with that “GoWear Fit.” You’re probably wondering how you ever got on without it.
Isn’t it fun how we surprise ourselves sometimes? And how not getting emotional (and just doing it) makes you incredibly giddy in the end? Haha. Love this post.
I would love one of those GoWear Fit things. I would love and obsess over the numbers. Perhaps it’s better that I don’t have one…
You are doing a great job! Keep it up.
Sorry about your car, but love that you made it an “adventure.”
the snow can be so beautiful if you don’t have to drive in it – your walk sounds so much better than huffing and puffing at the gymn
I haven’t had to walk in the snow–yet–but there have been plenty of times I’ve suddenly realized that hey, x number of months ago I’d've been pissed off and throwing a fit about walking!
Wow, what a great weight loss/exercise motivating tool!
I have a great diet tip I’ve found really helps me with the weight loss battle: Eat ONE square of Dark Chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) after your meal.
Did you know any Chocolate over 70% cocoa is considered a health food? How cool is that???
I have a HORRID sweet tooth too, but since Dark Chocolate is lower in sugar, i don’t crave it as much as the Milk Chocolate, so EAT less. So you can still have your cake (Chocolate) AND eat it too.
Have a great day!!!
