Let me start by saying that I don't like cantaloupe. It annoys me. It's the cheap filler in fruit cups. So when I passed a bin of locally grown ones at Harvest Moon yesterday I surprised myself by putting one in my cart. Maybe it will taste better?
Nope still cantaloupe. Although fresh and juicy I feel like it wants to taste better, the taste is muted to me. I can't explain it. Josh seems to enjoy it, but I was struggling. Justifying each bite with "it's good for you".
What am I going to do with it?
I cut some up and put it in the freezer with the hopes that I can make a nice smoothie with peaches. Any other ideas?
I loved the rest of my breakfast though. Two slices of bacon, eggs with spinach and mushrooms and half of an onion bagel with unsalted butter.

I’ve never been able to stomach cantaloupe either! The texture is fine, the juiciness seems like it should be delicious…but it smells weird. And tastes weirder. I stick with watermelon.
But I think you’re right about the smoothie idea…I bet with enough strawberries and yoghurt you’d hardly taste it.
Check out Pam’s recipe for chocolate canteloupe cake. It intrigues me.

Maybe you need to sprinkle it with a little salt? (Sea salt if table salt isn’t your thing) I think that makes the flavor really pop. This recipe is a hit most places: http://ezinearticles.com/?Italian-Prosciutto-and-Cantaloupe-Appetizer&id=96935
You might also look up other canteloupe recipes. Perhaps adding a savory will make it more interesting?
Lol! I hate it when I get something thinking, maybe this time I’ll like it? But of course, I never do. I do that with shrimp and Twinkies. I don’t know why I try to force myself to like Twinkies anyway. Hello Brittany, you’re trying to lose weight! ;D
Dried cantaloupe is fantastic…which surprised me. I dry it myself to avoid the huge amounts of sugar that the commercial varieties often have. It’s also very nice wrapped with prosciutto.
I find most melons are either a “love them or hate them” sort of fruit. I am not a big honeydew fan, myself.
Oh my gosh really?! Haha I was just thinking the other day: “Cantaloupe must be only fruit that everyone likes! It’s so delicious!” I figured they must be FULL of calories because they’re so good but it’s only like 300 for a WHOLE cantaloupe. Maybe I can have a day where I just eat 4 of those?!
I like the ‘lope. I usually put salt on it and eat it with cottage cheese.
I officially feel like less of a freak for not liking cantaloupe. My family LOVES it but I’m just not that into it.
You can squeeze some fresh lime juice and add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper or any other kind of dried pepper to slices on cantelope, which really elevates the taste. Super delicious!
