Today I really wanted to find reasons not to exercise. I wasn't feeling especially energetic, and to be honest I was looking forward to the sushi afterward. Can't we just skip the exercise and go right to sushi? No? okay...
That's how it was and I know that I need to keep this in mind. Going to the gym, pushing myself, sweating, and all of that is not comfortable. And I didn't want to do it, but I did it. And I want to remember this, and compile all of these times that I go even when I don't want to, because once I have a ton of them then it becomes easier to ignore the nagging "stay home, watch a movie" feeling I get when I'm putting on my sneakers.
I didn't think about food today. I ate two veggie burgers on 35 calorie bread, one for breakfast and another for lunch and then I had California rolls and chicken broth soup for dinner. I'm looking to find joy in simple, healthier foods. Oranges are really brilliant when I give them the time of day.
I didn't want to exercise, not even when I got there, not even after strength training, but then I forgot that I didn't want to be there and stayed 50 more minutes to do cardio. This isn't the only day that I won't want to go, and that doesn't mean I'm not determined. Not wanting to go to the gym has nothing to do with my determination, but going anyway does.
After I went I felt lighter, I moved better, I had the "good" tired feeling. I am going to write this down and put the note in my gym sneakers.
See you tomorrow!

Congratulations on going to the gym!
It takes a lot of willpower not to just take it easy and stay on the couch.
Keep up the good work!
Good Job Lorrie! For me, the hardest part is putting on the sneakers.
Take this or leave this, but last year instead of making on my resolution list “I want to exercise 5 times a week”, I changed it to “I want to WANT to exercise 5 times a week”, and it seems stupid and like, “yah, duh”, but it has made all the difference, and now I totally do.
I am the worst about going to the gym!
So, lately, I’ve been taking semi-private pilates classes. They charge you whether you show up or not – so it keeps me really accountable. I would think the same could work with a personal trainer session or even a really dedicated friend that you could make a weekly appointment with.
Have one day I *know* I have to work out keeps me on track with the rest of the week.
Good luck

awww
thanks for this post…
the title “I exercised. I didnt want to” just confirmed in my head that we must do it even if we hate it!
I was sitting here at work thinking to myself “damn I dont want to go to the gym this afternoon… maaaan i dont want to go. why do I torture myself with workouts on mondays?!?!?!” and lo and behold…
You did it (and on a sunday!)
I can do it…
i love post exercise feeling! i wish it wasnt so easy to mess up all the hard work of a good session at the gym. working out is sooooo not my problem. i can easily work off 500 calories without complaint, too bad the end of the day rolls around and ive usually spent those cals on a muffin or something.
Good for you! I didn’t want to go to the gym today, but I went and feel fantastic now. Keep up the good work and the inspiring blogs!
I just started a weight loss journal. I have finally reached that point that I have to do something. Can’t wait to read your blog.
Take care
I like your blog. I just got started on one yesterday, and am checking some out. I felt just like you today. I did not want to exercise, but I got on the treadmill, thinking MAYbe 30 minutes, but did 45. I would like to do one hour most days, but was proud of myself for just getting on today. My goal is to lose 20 pounds before I go back to Vegas, which I am addicted to. So, I went back to Weight Watchers and am trying to follow the program and exercise as much as I can
I’ve always disliked exercise, but, over the last year, it’s become part of my day to day routine. It’s still not my favorite thing in the world, but, I know it is very necessary.
I started with only 20 mins of cardio a day. Not a big commitment, but, enough to get my heart rate up to lose weight. I never do more than 25 mins a day, and have lost over 40lbs in 1 year.
Cardio sessions can be very short & sweet, while being extremely effective.
Congrats on going! It takes a lot of power to go, I’m still working on getting my lazy butt in the gym.
It’s also the same day I didn’t want to hit the gym, good to know you felt the same way and still went. I hope that’s me this coming month around. I’ll be working at it.
Its a struggle sometimes to keep exercising but it is worth it.
