What was I so excited to share yesterday? My GoWear Fit arrived in the mail yesterday! I considered purchasing one for a very long time and Monday afternoon I got a wild hair and bought it. And just as an FYI, I bought this myself and was not contacted by the folks at GoWear Fit to promote their product, although I would have gladly accepted!
This is what it looks like:
What does it do?
Simply wear it during the course of your regular day, then plug it into your computer and upload your data to your personal GoWear fit Online Activity Manager. The Manager will help you establish your goals, track your progress, and give you tools to help you know how many calories you're eating, on average, per day.Multi-Sensor Armband
Your armband is a small computer that measures a variety of physical characteristics, including motion, steps, galvanic skin response, skin temperature, and heat flux. It's the only multi-sensor monitor that can accurately track:
Calorie burn
Physical activity
Steps taken
Sleep duration
Sleep efficiency
I've always been curious to know how many calories my body at my current weight burns in an average day. Today I decided to wear it without exercise just to gage where I'm currently at. I read the reviews on amazon.com and they were very good. It is exactly like the bodybugg (used on the biggest loser) but more affordable and tracks sleeping patterns.
I took it off during my shower and so far it feels pretty comfortable. I have really big arms, which makes it slightly more uncomfortable for me and more noticeable that I'm wearing it than someone else with smaller arms. But, it is not painful or circulation inhibiting, you'd be hard pressed to know I'm even wearing it under my cardigan.
From the reviews a lot of people mentioned how the GoWear Fit device has helped motivate them to burn more calories during the day. The online tracker gives you target caloric goals for the day as well as a place to track the calories you are consuming. This tool is definitely not needed for weight loss, but it is a nice to know where you stand with daily activity, something I struggle with.
I put it on as soon as I got up around 5:30am this morning, took it off for my shower, and then put it back on. I plugged it into my computer around 7:30 because I was curious to see what my calories burned were while getting ready for work. 922. This includes any huffing and puffing while put on hose which it no easy feat.
Tomorrow morning I will log how many calories I burned today and compare them with my calories tomorrow when I resume exercise. I'll keep you posted!!
Food for yesterday:
organic blueberry greek yogurt w/ 1T chocolate chia goodness, 1T carob chips, and a few frozen blueberries: 225 calories
chicken fajitas (grilled chicken, onions, green peppers, lettuce, 1 T sour cream, 1/2 C pinto beans) approx. 650-700 calories
1 serving pizza ( 410 calories)
1/4 C pistachios: 170 calories
Total: 1,480

Oooh exciting! I was thinking about buying one of these but have held off (mainly because I am a skeptic)…so I’m looking forward to hearing about how it works for you!
That sounds so cool! I’ll be interested to see if you like it. Years ago my hubby and I had something similar (sportbrain maybe) but they went out of business. We were really motivated when we saw the tracking.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of this. I’ve been thinking about getting one but I didn’t want to spend the money if it wasn’t awesome.
Oh so jealous. Am anxious to hear your review on this. I’m hboping it’s something that is easily incorporated into your day because I’m not the most stick-with-it kind of person out there. Good luck!
Goodness. Gracious.
I am coveting. And typing very slowly. For emphasis.
I cannot wait to hear how awesome it is! Lucky girl!
Erin: I know what you mean! I think my “do I really need this?” voice is what kept me from buying it for so long
But, I don’t have buyers remorse so that’s good!
Waisting Time: I’ve never heard of that! I’m sorry it went out of business. I will keep the blog updated as I go. So far I can’t even feel it.
FB: I’m excited to share! I’ll be the guinea pig!
keila: so far it seems to be very user friendly and it does all the work for me which I enjoy and really need to stick with it daily. I’m looking forward to making and keeping calorie burn goals!
krissie, you crack me up
I can’t wait to share!
Anxious to hear if it is comfortable during the night and how it actually knows your sleep duration.
(new blog follower who says- “you’re inspiring!”)
Verrry cool! It’s cool when you are just getting ready for work how many calories you can burn. You’ll definately lose weight if you keep up your food routine that you have now. If that is what you are eating on a daily basis (1400-1900 calories), you’re gonna lose the weight!! Great!!
1-I am so happy to see you blogging regularly again!
2-I have a GoWear Fit and absolutely love it. I need to get in the habit of wearing it again. My arms are bigger too, they actually sell different size arm bands on the GWF website, for something like $8-12 each. I have a few so that I can rotate through them. I throw them in the dishwasher on the top shelf to clean them lol.
oh yeah…I also read that sleeping enough (aim for 8 + hours) is really helpful in losing fat. Sleep is one of the main methods of detox for your body and that includes elimanation of fat. I found when I did sleep well and for more than 8 hours, losing weight was a lot easier. Also, I have to mention, having a few drinks on the weekends, that did seem to set me back. I’ve given up drinking completely..( I would drink 2 glasses of champagne on Sat. nite) and that seemed to help. Also, even if I didn’t feel like exercising, I FORCED myself to do at least 20 minutes of whatever (walking, wii fit, biking) and this helped me too.
It’s going to be difficult somedays, but yes, this is your year, Lorrie! if you stick with the planned meals and the reduced calories throughout the day…it WILL HAPPEN!!!!!! The monitor sounds awesome!
Awesome!!! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
I’ll be interested to hear what your daily burn is. I’ve always used a basic calculation of approx. 11 cals. for every one pound of body weight.
YaY for new toys!
I’m so excited for you! I’ll have to check out this gadget! It sounds like it gives a lot of good info about our bodies!
Sounds like a great device! I may have to try that myself!
Love your posts as always.
That is so neat! I need to get me one!
Wow! 922 calories in two hours not counting your shower. My 30 minute workout at Curves in the mornings averages about 600 then I go home and walk two miles in 30 min. or bike (stationary) 7 miles in 30 minutes. Either I’m (or my curvessmart chip) really underestimating my calorie burn or you’re a calorie burning stud!
How have I not heard of this? Very interested in hearing how it works! I wish it was a little less expensive though. $180 is still a lot of moneys
Oh, that looks rad!
I’m adding that to my wish list.
I love your blog! Thanks so much for posting pictures to chronicle your journey! I just started my blog today and will continue to seek inspiration from you!
I read the reviews and your devise is exactly like the bodybugg. I read that 24 hour Fitness bought the rights to the bodybugg and that is why we have the GoWearFit.
I love my bodybugg! I’m a chart and graph girl. The progress charts are so inspiring. You’re right you don’t even know that you’re wearing it. I’ve even heard of people wearing them on their leg. I have a long time before I could even think about doing that
The food log is great and keeps me on track.
Here’s a link to my bodybugg post on my shellibelly.com blog:

Have fun with your new tool.
I think you’re really going to like the GoWearFit. I have a BodyBugg, and I really like the feedback it gives me. I love knowing how many calories a certain activity burns. It keeps me motivated to move a little more to make sure I reach my “caloric deficit” each day. Looking forward to seeing how you like it.
I’ve always wondered if this was a super secret device only featured on the Biggest Loser, or something available to the general public! I’ll definitely have to check this out…
I can see how a device like this would motivate me to take the stairs more, park farther from the store, etc. Do you notice that?
How does it know how many calories you eat? These things, while amazing, are creepy smart. Can’t wait to see how it works for you.
I’d never heard of this gadget before, I’d love to hear how you get on with it and if its a worthwhile tool to have with losing weight.
I ordered a timex pulse watch to give me the heartrate - but it didn’t do it so I sent it back - i think something like this would really motivate a person to move more
This must be witchcraft. It’s too good to be true. I will definitely be checking into this.
Love your blog. I got a GWF for Christmas and have been wearing it everyday since Jan. 1st. So far I have lost 12#. It has helped take all the guess work out of weightloss.
Continued sucess!
