Finding Peace With Food

raspberry noosa Finding Peace With Food

The day started very very early (so early, it was dark) with my last serving of raspberry noosa and a few almond slivers on top.

For late breakfast I had a bowl of peanut butter and jelly banana soft serve.

For first lunch I had a bowl of vegetable soup (photo on yesterday's post) and then a couple of hours later I shared some thin crust pizza with Josh.

tomato soup and grilled cheese Finding Peace With Food

For dinner I made a big batch of tomato soup with sour cream and grilled cheese paninis. I was out of regular broth so I had to use a pho starter broth which gave the soup a more citrusy sort of taste. It was really good and so easy to make! Just two large cans of diced tomatoes, 1 onlion + 7 cloves of garlic sauteed in olive oil, 4 Cups of broth, salt to taste and then about 1/4 c. sour cream. I used my immersion blender to make it smooth and creamy.

Yesterday was a food-heavy (dairy heavy!) day for me, but it wasn't out of control. I'm finding a nice place where I'm never really full or really hungry and this prevents 95% of my urges to overeat or binge. I'm also eating frequent, smaller meals, throughout the day, which is something I never thought would work for me, but it is.  I'm learning to get over my food fears and stop worrying so much. And everyday I remind myself that being consistent will get me there and to trust the process. I'm trusting that I don't have to starve myself, or eat foods that I don't like to lose weight. I just need a lot less of it.

I did a lot of strength and resistance-band work yesterday and followed with some much needed deep cleaning. I'm in the process of totally cleaning the house inside and out and it's turning into a nice workout.

Stay the course girl, you are doing all the right things. I totally understand about food fears, and having doubts if what we are doing is right. In the past I let it sabotage me, but no more.
I found for me, my fears stemmed also from worrying about not being able to identify with the new slimmer me. I have been overweight since the age of 5, so it is an integral part of my identity. Who am I if I’m not overweight?
To help with this I have begun writing a journal to ” slim Silvia”. I feel this will help me transition into what is really a new phase of identity. I can always read back about the journey, and be reminded that it’s still me, and I haven’t somehow abandoned that fat girl that was me for 32 years.
Maybe this could be of help to quell fears not only about food, but about change.

  • I’ve never heard of PBJ soft serve! That sounds amazing! Where did you get it?

I love your approach and your mindset, keep up the fabulous results! You inspire me :-)

  • I recently discovered your site, and I’m in awe! I’m cheering for you and we’ve never even met. I need to lose weight too, and you are inspiring.

My weight has been up and down for years, and I last enjoyed weighing myself in fourth grade. I think one of my issues is the fact that I hate to cook. How do you do it every day?

Your foodie pictures make me want to reach into the screen for a taste. As I said before I hate to cook (or maybe I’m just not good at it) but seeing your food has made me want to try.

Your thoughts are touching and sincere. As a Counselor, I can say that I think you’re on the right track. I like your thinking process and approach to life. I look forward to reading about your day and looking at that delicious food!

Are you really loosing weight with that
sort of food? Don’t get me wrong, but eating healthy and dieting here in Brazil is nowhere close to that. Anyway, if it’s working for you… you go, girl! I have a lot of weight to drop and came here for some inspiration, and you made me so very hungry. Haha, I will come back, tho’.

Great posts. Lovely pictures. Your food looks so incredibly delicious!

    Best wishes.

Your soups have reminded me of my “Green Soup” I used to make when I first had my baby. I had lost a lit of blood and its full of iron. Its a super lazy soup and i’ve been inspired to make it this morning!

    3 cups of frozen broccoli
    3 cups of frozen spinach
    1 onion
    8a few cloves of garlic
    6 cups of water
a couple of chicken bullion cubes
A couple of tablespoons of cream cheese for finishing

    soften the onion and garlic

Add everything else except the cream cheese and simmer till the broccoli is soft

take out one cup and blend everything else with the cream cheese until smooth and creamy and add back the retained cup for a bit of texture.

  • I don’t work out but I had 4000 calories today, and I am losing weight! I believe this is happening to me because I’m eating very very healthily.

The only work out I do is just to walk for 20 minutes from my home to work, and that’s all for the day. I just find it amazing that I can still run 10km if I want to.

I really think it’s happening because I eat really really healthily. Like reaaaaallllly.

I found your blog when searching for some company in this food struggle. I’ve been in the overweight world my whole life, and am facing alot of fear about putting the weight back on after six years of balance with the food and exercise. Your posts are so honest and inspiring! I will follow your journey while I work my own.
