Here are a couple of outfits that I came up with today using some of the inspiration from yesterday's post. I received a lovely necklace in the mail that I ordered off of etsy a couple of weeks ago and wore that all day today and based my outfit around it.
My hair is looking crazay in this picture.
I love pencil skirts! They are definitely a staple in my closet. Why? They are comfortable, flattering and I enjoy tucking shirts into them. I got this one from old navy (of course) and love it because of the wide waste band, dark denim and two button closure. I'm wearing a size 22 in this skirt and find it to be fitted, but also roomy in the waste which I like. It seems to be a little stretchy too. You can find it here.
This shirt I got recently from avenue.com which is very hit or miss store for me. Sometimes I love their clothes and sometimes I hate them. I love this shirt though. I ordered it online and really enjoy the small gold rose buttons and somewhat fringed fabric in the ruffles and sleeves. I love the collar too. It has an old romantic feel to me which I like. This shirt is a size 18/20 and could stand to be a bit looser on me,especially in the bust. Nothing Jillian's 30 day shred can't help with. You can find it here. (ps: if you ever order from avenue.com, google "avenue coupon codes" and you can get 20% off of every item you order)
Here is a close-up of my necklace. Disregard my creepy eyes here
This is definitely a "statement" necklace, to say the least. This would go in the category of things that I think are awesome. I bought this off of etsy from a lady in canada. Her website is here. I've got my eye on her bird cameo too! If you can't tell from the photo, it is an illustration of a fox. The original sale page is here.
Here is another outfit that I put together using a new-to-me accessory: a belt! I never wear belts. ever. Actually I could make a public stance against belts. They are silly to me. Well, jeans with belts and tucked in shirts are silly to me. Or wearing a belt with jeans and your shirt tucked out seems silly as well. Then again, wearing a belt over a tank top could certainly go in the category of weird as well. Anywho, I'm liking this look a lot!
It does for me what the pencil skirt does- accentuates the waste. This tank top was purchased at old navy a couple of summers back and its very loose and flowy. I think this belt brings it in and makes it look more polished in strange way. This is a size xxl. And the belt came with a skirt that I bought about three years ago. You can see the pants, but I am wearing these skinny jeans in a size 20. They fit and are comfortable and don't look bad with this outfit, however I would think they would look just a bit better with a 10-15 lb weight loss. My camera died before I could get a better full length photo, but will take another tomorrow.
I got this sweater in Chicago at Filene's Basement. I love the mustard color and big buttons. It is a size xl and fits pretty good. I like fitted clothes, what can i say?
I'm still working on a lot of my fall fashion ideas this week so bear with me, they're a comin'! I will keep posting them as I get them done and will post ideas if I have any. If you guys are trying out new outfits, please feel free to send me an email and I will post it here.
PS: I've started the Jillian Michael's 30-day shred with my sister in law and we are heading into day three tomorrow morning. I am so sore, but it feels really good to have someone to be accountable with. She is good at sticking to things and I don't want to let her down, so it pushes me to keep with it.
I also wanted to start posting my food, I did take a couple of pictures, but will probably post them tomorrow. Today I ate: a small salad (lettuce, eggs, broccoli, tomatoes) with light ranch dressing, banana, rice , beans, salad with guacamole, salsa and about 10 tortilla chips, for dinner I made homemade pizza (the crust) with sauce, fresh mozzarella and lots of onions. I had three small slices of that.
Tomorrow is local thursday's!

Wow you opened my eyes to so much with this post. I have to say I’ve always been so Anti Pencil Skirt. I think even on skinny girls they can have this weird not so good looking affect. I’ve seen some business suit type of pencil skirts that look good with like a dressy lacy top tucked in. I’m not quite ready to start tucking in my shirts : P But, you really pulled off a beautiful hip look with the pencil skirt. The entire look fits well : ) I also am pretty anti belts as well. If I have worn a belt then its actually been around my cargo shorts when I was smaller in size and went on a lot of hiking trips. I have never worn it fashionably. I will keep this in mind because it gives you and probably any girl a very defined waist : ) Great post! Gotta love Old Navy! It’s been great to afford Old Navy while I go through my weight loss change because I’m going to need some good “transitioning” clothes!
absolutely LOVE the second outfit. ive never tried the belt-over-top thing, but i’ve been considering it. i love the bold yellow over the flowy floral…very nice.
and etsy definitely is amazing. a few months ago i bought a necklace from a woman in the UK. i’m wearing it in my profile photo, it’s a square rubber-ish pendant with a silk screening of an original alice in wonderland print (alice with the key at the door) and on the chain is a old fashioned key and a tiny little pendant of the white rabbit. i totally love it.
You look so pretty in both of those outfits! I love the mustard sweater…I saw a peacoat today that was the same color that I may have to splurge on for fall.
Good luck on Day 3 of the shred! I keep hearing good things about it, and may try it myself.
I love both outfits, but I think I might try and steal that white blouse in the first closet. It’s gorgeous! So, if you catch me lurking in your closet, I’m so sorry.
Have fun with the Shred. I didn’t make it all 30-Days (I think I got distracted by another DVD), but I definitely saw great results from it.
Tawny- I know what you mean about the pencil skirt, I didn’t actually start wearing them until a couple of years ago. I purchased a denim one from lane bryant, which i still wear, and loved it. It is a classic shape.
And yes! Fan of the belt now too. I’m trying to find some more funky ones to wear, and considering making a few of my own.
erin- your necklace sounds so whimsical and pretty! What shop did you purchase it from? Thanks for the outfit compliments,
get yourself a belt and post pictures!
megan, what is it about mustard yellow? a mustard yellow pea coat in the fall sounds very pretty.
just finished day 3 on the shred! i did try this once before, but got distracted…with laziness
natasha- i’m watching you! haha The first result I’m seeing after three days would have to be the fluidity of my movements. I also have more energy throughout my day.
You have a really good fashion sense that I envy. My clothes are very boring and all look the same. I usually have a hard time knowing what looks good on me.
I love etsy. I’ve gotten some great jewelry from there.
Lynne,
Thank you. i think developing our fashion sense takes time and something that evolves if we are interested in changing or updating our look.
If you send me a picture, and an email with some ideas of your personal style, I could put some outfit ideas together for you.
That goes for anyone else reading as well. my email is tokenfatgirl@gmail.com
i <3 etsy too, its the best.
I LOVE your outfits, especially that white ruffle shirt and the cabbage shoes. I wish I had a sense of fashion. I always just go to the store and buy things the sales people have already put together on display. So my outfits often have absolutely no personality and individuality. I can’t for the life of me put things together on my own
You have a GREAT sense of style. Thanks for sharing
Great pics and combos. You look fabulous.
And I LOVE the Turget lady. Do you remember the skit with Ben Affleck? Hilarious, and I’m not his biggest fan…
Pencil skirt looks great. I always hesistate to tuck anything in but you’ve inspired me. Looking forward to Thursday’s in the Hood.
The necklace is hot! I really love it, stylish and BAM!…makes a bold statement! I absolutely love the pencil skirt outfit, you look so COOL! Great ideas! And..the red lipstick is…awesome! Etsy is a great website, I might make some jewelry and try and sell it!
First look is super chic while the second one is fun. Aren’t belts fun?
Cannot wait for more outfit posts.

New reader — love the ideas and links to where you purchased these items! I love the look of the belt over the top, too.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE POSTS!!!
you look fantabulous.
I’m impressed with your food presentation. Settign the table, lighting candles–really add to the meal. Sometimes, I just come home and shovel food in my mouth. You’ve inspired me to make my food look good. Sit down and enjoy it. I have tons of candles–I just don’t use them. Thanks for the great post. Looking forward to your fashion/makeup posts.
you look super hot in that pencil skirt. I envy anyone that can wear a skirt. No matter what size I’ve been I have never been able to pull one off. Looking at you in that skirt has inspired me to maybe try again. You look great!
I just wanted to say that it’s great to see another young woman who’s on their weight loss journey! I just started a blog about how I lost 130 pounds, you should check it out sometime. I’m trying to find some blogging buddies
I’m planning on telling about my experiences, sharing great low fat recipes, etc! Keep up the good work!
you have such a pretty face! I really like your blog, by the way.
Hey I really love the way you put together your outfits! They flatter you very much and you look trendy and sophisticated. Good job!
