Note from day one:
I've been here before. I've had what seems like a hundred of "start days". What will make this particular journey different from the last? Daily reminders of where I want to be, planning and organization. The quote from above describes exactly where I've been many times before: looking for the right situation to lose weight. The right diet, the right circumstance, the right season, but I know there will never be a perfect day, time, or weight loss plan to lose weight.
I got on my Smooth Fitness Elliptical machine yesterday (graciously given to me by the company) for the first time in a couple of months. I've moved the machine into my home office/creative space and planted it in the direction of my monitor screen. I climbed on, started playing The Office on hulu.com (why am I so late with this one?) and started moving.
Five minutes in I felt like Bridget Jones in her famous stationary bike scene. But before I knew it I was sweating and laughing as Pam tried to hook Oscar up with the new warehouse guy over Pate'. I wrote down what I ate, which is something I'm aiming to stick with. It's a good habit for me to get in, not only to keep track of portions, but for record keeping. It's fun for me to look back and remember meals I had over the course of time, which triggers memories and helps me to remember meals that I can make again when I get bored or stuck.
There are sacrifices to losing weight, but I don't have to kill myself in the process. I've been known to set up crazy obstacles for myself that are simply not obtainable long-term. You can find my food and exercise log at the top of my website or here.

Girl, I’m so proud of you! And I see my “Be Fearless” token on the side of your screen! I carry it with me in my wallet every day!
It is so nice to see you daily.
Happy new year, my friend.
Looking forward to following your progress!
Happy New Year!
Great Start!!!
Did you get the elliptical for free? If so, you’re a lucky girl.
I just started writing down my meals too. I wrote out a weeks worth of menu and plan to stick to it. Everything is calorie counted and I don’t plan on eating anything off the menu.
Good Luck! Enjoy your Elliptical.
hey i just started following your blog and it’s really motivating! Best of luck with the new year, keep it at and you’ll achieve your goals!!
You are off to a great start! I’ve just started following you, too…for the oh, million and one time.
Different in many ways, this ‘start’ of mine…
I’ll be back to check on you!
I’m jealous of your elliptical! I’ve been wanting one for about a year now to park in front of my TV, because it’s so much easier to a) exercise at home (rather than a gym) and b) keep yourself distracted with TV while exercising.
I completely agree with your quote. There is no right time… life doesn’t get easier just because you set a goal for yourself! But that’s part of the process, you know? You have to learn how to deal with the challenges life throws at you or you won’t maintain any weight loss.
Good luck again!
I just stole this quote for my FB page… thanks! Those “start days” mean that we are NOT giving up!
I am jealous that you have an elliptical! Good job on the first day!
Every day is a “start day.” It needs to be! It’s a choice, each and every single day.
I’m so excited about your enthusiasm! Way to break through “the wall!”
You are off to a great start! I have really enjoyed reading your posts. I too find that writing down everything I eat is key.
Just keep staying positive and you’ll do great! I weighed in today and actually dropped 10 pounds! Yes! So jealous on the elliptical! Need to get me a bike that way!
Lorrie – Good luck with your resolution! I used to weigh over 340 pounds and now compete in figure competitions at a competition weight of 125-130. Your weight loss goal is completely doable, with commitment and scarifice. I hope you don’t use the scale as a measurement of your success. Sometimes the scale is not your friend – especially if you are doing any weight training. Building muscle will help you get to your goals – but may cause the scale to play with your emotions sometimes. But I can tell you, weight training, cardio and diet are three tools that go together.
You seem to have a great support system and that for me was always the most important.
I hope to read about your successes! Happy New Year….
2010 is just feeling like a brand new, fabulous year overall! There’s power in many people’s goals this time around..it’s definately in the air. If you lose 2 pounds a month, that’s fantastic! Just keep going, it’s gonna happen! Love this blog! It’s just the best, much luck and continued success to you!
I love the meal plan. I have been trying to develop a good one for a long time.
I am feeling some good energy from you right now. Positive vibes, good plans and realistic expectations.
You are getting me jazzed up. Keep up the inspiration!
Betty
kudos to you, i just started a healthier lifestyle on 1-1-10. So far I have been keeping a journal of what i eat and when I excercise. food seems to taste better since it’s not a free for all. And you’re right time passes by too quickly, no better time than now. Good luck, I’ll keep checking in to see how you are doing and hopefully you’ll be a movtivation. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I just found your blog a couple days ago and am really enjoying it. Good luck in the New Year.
Hey girl…..I’m right with ya. And I also want to say that I think you are the cutest thing in your pictures. I hope to really make a change for myself. I have to at my age. Keep up the good work….I’m going to be checking in.
Thanks!
Just found your blog and have to say, it’s truly inspiring. I too am starting on this journey. Well, i’ve been on it for awhile, but need some refocusing. Love what you say..the quotes. Perfect and great motivation. Keep it up! It will be fun to be on this journey at the same time.
Yes, I love the quote too! Our first full workout was today and was intense. I love the support and inspiration I get from this blog. I too am writing it down; I feel more conscious of actually how much I am eating that way. Keep it up!
Lorrie, the very best question you asked yourself in this post is “what am I feeding when I overeat?” Keep asking yourself this quesiton and listen for the answer. Do this consistantly, each time you find yourself with the urge to eat when you are not “physically” hungry. Which by the way, you want to make sure you can still feel the difference between physical and emotional hunger.
